The awards wars – the sequel
Six weeks ago I wrote a post – The awards wars – highlighting the ethos of The Community Awards by contrast to other glossed-up awards schemes.
On Friday 4th November, at Venue Central, the Community Awards did it’s thing.
I’ve checked out the websites of Luton on Sunday and Luton Today (Herald & Post). I can find no mention of the Community Awards.
Of course, it may be I’m ahead of myself, it may be the local print media intend to do a grand spread in their hard copy publications. Let’s wait and see.
This was an impressive event! 500 people, well organised, comfortable, and well compered – not compare – nothing to do with that stupid advert with the idiot man with the moustache singing – stress on comp – compered – you get the point.
Privately, we never forget where we came from. Publicly, it’s different. What others see is the person now, the person in front of them, the person who has moved on, changed.
The Community Awards is about this stage in people’s lives, the sorting-out stage, the getting-away from what was holding them back. It merits support for this. It does not need the glitter, gloss and business speke speeches.
It was a major event – the Mayor, local MPs, Councillors etc – many many more – endorsing the value of the event.
If the local media are hiding because their interest is in their own glossy events, shame on them.
